Anxiety

Stress and emotional upset are a normal part of life. However, when feelings of worry, fear, anger, or grief become overwhelming or last for too long, they can have a negative impact on the body as well as the mind.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) looks at the mind and body as being two sides of the same coin. Emotional imbalances such as depression, anxiety, and irritability are associated, within the TCM paradigm, with specific organ-systems. Long-term emotional upset can cause physical manifestations of illness. Likewise, if there is a weakness, excessive pathogenic substance, or stagnation/blockage within that organ or group of organs, one will experience feelings of emotional distress.

Treatment for emotional disorders involves obtaining a history of what you are experiencing physically, mentally, and emotionally. Acupuncture and associated modalities may be used to help to regulate the flow of qi (pronounced “chee” – the body’s finest matter and energy) within the organs & the entire body. Chinese herbs have also been shown over thousands of years to be helpful in regulating the flow of qi within the body, helping the organ-systems to self-regulate with the ultimate goal of allowing your body to heal itself.

If you are currently seeking treatment via other modalities, we encourage interaction with your other healthcare providers so that we may offer you the best possible treatment. If you have been diagnosed with an illness that requires medications, TCM can be effective as a complement to achieving wellness and balance.
